Im Namen Gottes, des Allerbarmers, des Begnadenden

An alle jungen Menschen in Europa und Nordamerika! 

Die jüngsten Ereignisse in Frankreich und ähnliche Vorfälle in einigen anderen westlichen Ländern haben mich davon überzeugt, dass ich euch direkt diesbezüglich ansprechen sollte. Ich wende mich an euch junge Menschen, nicht um eure Eltern außer Acht zu lassen, sondern deshalb, weil ich die Zukunft eures Volkes und eurer Heimat in euren Händen liegen und in euren Herzen ein vitaleres und sensibleres Verlangen nach der Wahrheit sehe. Mit diesen Zeilen wende ich mich auch nicht an eure Politiker und Regierungsverantwortlichen, denn ich bin mir sicher, dass sie bewusst den Weg der Politik von dem Weg der Aufrichtigkeit und Rechtschaffenheit getrennt haben.

Ich spreche zu euch über den Islam und insbesondere über das Bild, dass sie euch vom Islam vorlegen. Seit zwei Jahrzehnten, d.h. ungefähr nach dem Zerfall der Sowjetunion, hat es zahlreiche Bestrebungen gegeben, diese große Religion als einen beängstigenden Feind darzustellen. Die Heraufbeschwörung von Angst und Ablehnung und deren Missbrauch blicken bedauerlicherweise auf eine lange Vergangenheit in der politischen Geschichte des Westens zurück. Ich möchte hier nicht auf die verschiedenen Ängste, die bislang den westlichen Völkern eingeflößt worden sind, eingehen. Ihr selber könnt mit einem kurzen Blick auf die jüngsten kritischen Geschichtsstudien erkennen, dass in der neuen Geschichtsbeschreibung das unaufrichtige und betrügerische Verhalten westlicher Staaten gegenüber anderen Völkern und Kulturen auf der Welt gerügt worden ist. Die Geschichte Europas und Amerikas schämt sich wegen dem Skalventum. Sie schaut verlegen wegen der Kolonialzeit und wegen dem Unrecht an Farbigen und Nicht-Christen zu Boden. Eure Forscher und Historiker erklären aufrichtig, dass sie sich wegen des Blutvergießens schämen, welches im Namen der Religion zwischen Katholiken und Protestanten oder im Namen der Nationalität und der Volkszugehörigkeit im Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg geschehen ist.

Dieses Geständnis verdient von Natur aus Anerkenung. Ich will auch gar nicht die Geschichte tadeln, wenn ich einen Ausschnitt aus dieser langen Liste nenne, sondern ich möchte, dass ihr eure Intellektuellen fragt, warum das kollektive Gewissen im Westen immer erst mit einer Verzögerung von mehreren Jahrzehnten und manchmal mehreren Jahrhunderten aufwacht. Warum ist die Korrektur des kollektiven Gewissens immer auf die weit zurückliegende Vergangenheit gerichtet und nicht auf die aktuellen Probleme? Warum wird in wichtigen Dingen wie der Begegnung mit der islamischen Kultur und Denkweise eine allgemeine Informiertheit verhindert?

Ihr wisst ja, dass Herabsetzung und Hervorrufung von Hass und fiktiver Angst gegenüber „Anderem" die Grundlage für alle ungerechten Bestrebungen nach Profit und Vorteilen ist. Nun möchte ich, dass ihr euch selber fragt, warum diesmal die alte Politik der Angstmache und Verbreitung von Hass in einem derartig beispiellosen Ausmaß den Islam und die Muslime ins Visier genommen hat?

Warum ist das internationale Machtsystem von heute bestrebt, das islamische Denken an den Rand und in die Passivität zu drängen? Welche Sinngebungen und Werte gibt es denn beim Islam, die dem Konzept der Großmächte in die Quere kommen, und welche Interessen werden durch die falsche Darstellung des Islams denn gedeckt? Meine erste Bitte lautet daher, dass ihr nach den Motiven dieser großangelegten Schwarzmalerei über den Islam forscht.

Meine zweite Bitte ist die, dass ihr gegenüber der Flut von Vorurteilen und Hetzpropaganda, versucht, euch direkt und unmittelbar mit dieser Religion vertraut zu machen. Der gesunde Verstand befiehlt, dass ihr zumindest wisst, wovor ihr flieht und euch fürchtet und von welcher Beschaffenheit es ist. Ich bestehe nicht darauf, dass ihr meine oder irgendeine andere Deutung des Islams akzeptiert. Ich sage nur: Lasst nicht zu, dass euch, ausgehend von böswilligen und schmutzigen Motive, diese lebendige und die heutige Welt beeinflussende Wahrheit präsentiert wird. Gestattet nicht, dass sie euch heuchlerisch die Terroristen, die sie selber angeheuert haben, als Repräsentanten des Islams vorstellen. Lernt den Islam über die echten Quellen und die Quellen aus erster Hand kennen. Werdet mit dem Islam durch den Koran und die Biografie ihres großen Propheten vertraut.

Ich möchte euch an dieser Stelle gerne fragen, ob ihr euch bislang schon direkt an den Koran der Muslime gewandt habt? Habt ihr die Verhaltensweise des Propheten des Islams und seine menschlichen und moralischen Lehren studiert? Habt ihr bislang außer über die Medien auch aus anderen Quellen über die Botschaft des Islams erfahren? Habt ihr euch jemals gefragt, wie und aufgrund welcher Werte dieser Islam mehrere Jahrhunderte hintereinander die größte wissenschaftliche und geistige Zivilisation der Welt hervorbrachte und die besten Gelehrten und Denker großzog?

Ich bitte euch nicht zuzulassen, dass sie durch abwertende und einfältige Maskenbilder zwischen euch und der Wahrheit eine gefühlsgeladene Trennmauer errichten und euch die Möglichkeit rauben, sich unvoreingenommen ein Urteil zu bilden.

In unserer Zeit, in der die Kommunikationsmittel die geografischen Grenzen überwunden haben, solltet ihr nicht zulassen, dass man euch in künstliche geistige Grenzen einsperrt. Auch wenn kein Einzelner die entstandenen Klüfte ausfüllen kann, so kann doch jeder von euch für die eigene Erkenntnis und die Aufklärung seiner Umgebung eine Brücke des Denkens und der Gerechtigkeit über diesen Klüften errichten.

Dieser bewusst vorausgeplante Konflikt zwischen dem Islam und euch jungen Menschen ist nicht angenehm , aber er kann eurem wissbegierigen und suchenden Geist neue Denkaufgaben geben. Durch Bemühung um eine Antwort auf diese Fragen tut sich vor euch eine wertvolle Gelegenheit zur Entdeckung neuer Wahrheiten auf. Deshalb lasst diese Gelegenheit für das richtige und vorurteilfreies Islamverständnis nicht aus der Hand gleiten. Vielleicht werden dann dank eures Verantwortungsbewusstseins gegenüber der Wahrheit die kommenden Generationen weniger beschämt und mit einem ruhigeren Gewissen über diesen Abschnitt der Geschichte der Beziehungen des Westens zum Islam schreiben können.

Millions of Mourners Marking Ashura Worldwide

These message highlight the real philosophy behind the historic and divine event of Ashura. 

Imam Khomeini the world religious and spiritual leader said at one of occasions in this regard as following:

“The Imam Hussein (PBUH) intention was to enjoin the good and forbid the evil. All deviations are due to the sins that are carried out and apart from the straight path of unity (of God) everything must see how the Imam (as) lived, understand his uprising and what he intended to do when he forbade the evil. One of his intentions was to defeat the corrupt rulers.”

Imam Khomeini said one of the objectives pursued by the grandson of the holy prophet of Islam was establishing a government and administration of good and pious people.  

 “The Master of Martyrs (as) sacrificed his life and his children. He sacrificed everything even though he knew what would happen. If one reads his sayings when he left Medina and in Mecca and when he left Mecca, one realizes that he knew very well what was awaiting him. Imam Hussein (PBUH) did not come to just see through a series of events, no, he came to take the government in his hands, and this is something to be proud of. This is because the government should be in the hands of someone who is like the Master of Martyrs (PBUH), or like his followers...”

The tyrant rulers from Umayyad dynasty had put Islam in danger due to their atheistic behavior and hostile actions towards Islam.

“The fact that the Master of Martyrs left Mecca at a time when pilgrims were coming to Mecca, shows that his uprising was a great political uprising. It was an Islamic-political uprising because the Imam (PBUH) was thinking of Islam and the Muslims, and of defeating the Umayyad dynasty. If it was not for this uprising, Islam would have been obliterated...”  

According to Imam Khomeini, the grandson of the holy prophet relieved Islam from clutches of dictators and evil rulers who were distorting the genuine teachings of divine religion.

“He was thinking of Islam and the Muslims and he did what he did, so that as a result of his jihad and sacrifice, in the future Islam would spread among people……else is evil. This evil and these sins must be obliterated.”

The founder of the Islamic Republic said that the pure teachings of Islam can be revived and kept alive by promoting the legacy of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and keeping alive the culture of Ashura for generations to come. The culture of Ashura will also prevent the human societies from falling into pits of social and moral decline.

Millions of mourners across the globe are commemorating Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram, on which the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH), and his companions were martyred in an unequal battle.

Black-clad mourners are taking to the streets and mosques in different parts of the world, including Iran, to honor the day, which marks a height of mourning ceremonies in Muharram.

Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and 72 of his loyal companions, were martyred on Ashura in the battle of Karbala against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, more than 14 centuries ago. Imam Hussein was killed after he refused to pledge allegiance to the tyrant ruler.

The mourning services have been in place worldwide since the beginning of Muharram.

The annual Muharram ceremonies, which have been performed for many centuries, symbolize the eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and humanity’s struggle against injustice, tyranny and oppression, the cause for which Imam Hussein was martyred.

Imam Khomeini Underscored Preserving of Ashura Legacy

The great Imam also called on the masses and scholars to take serious intellectual efforts to comprehend and promote the real philosophy behind the tragic event of Ashura.

 

Imam Khomeini insisted that the mourning ceremonies should be used to promote the genuine and pure teachings of Islam as conveyed by the holy prophet of Islam and his infallible successors.

The founder of the Islamic Republic explained the philosophy behind Imam Hussein's (peace be upon him) uprising which was to take a stance against aggression and tyranny. The grandson of the holy prophet also wanted to install and promote the Islamic principle of commanding for good and forbidding from evil.

Imam Khomeini in his historical speech on the eve of Muharram highlights the objectives achieved by the uprising of His Holiness, the Doyen of the Martyrs (‘a).

 

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

 

His Holiness the Doyen of the Martyrs taught all of us what we must do in the face of oppression, in the face of injustice; in the face of tyrannical rulers. Despite, he knew ahead of time that the path he was treading was a path on which he must sacrifice all his companions, his family and sacrifice much-loved individuals for the sake of Islam and he knew of its aftermath. If this movement was not present—the movement of Husayn (‘a)—Yazīd and his followers would have been shown the abrogated image of Islam abrogated in a different light to the people. From the beginning, they had no faith in Islam, were envious, and despised the saints of Islam. In addition to defeating them with this sacrifice, after a while the Doyen of the Martyrs made the people to realize what a tragedy and what a sorrow had befallen them. Moreover, this same sorrow resulted in the decline of the Umayyad dynasty. In addition, he taught in the course of history that this was the true path. Do not be afraid of the numerical superiority; numbers are not important; it is the quality—the quality of the sacred struggle—it is that which does the job. It is possible that the individuals are many in numbers but in terms of quality, they are flawed or hollow. It is also possible that the individuals may be few in numbers but potent and honorable in terms of quality…

What is our duty on the eve of the month of Muharram al-Harām? What are the duties of the eminent theologians and the revered clergy? What are the duties of the rest of the strata of the nation in this month of Muharram? The Doyen of the Martyrs, his companions and household have taught the duties: sacrifice in the battlefield and propagation outside the battlefield. To the same extent that the sacrifice of His Holiness is valued in the presence of the Blessed and Almighty God; and has helped to move forward the movement of Husayn (s), the sermons of His Holiness Sajjād and Her Holiness Zaynab also have been effective to the same extent or almost to the same extent.

They taught us that opposite the tyrant, opposite a tyrannical rule, the women must not be afraid, the men must not fear. Her Holiness Zaynab confronted Yazīd; Her Holiness Zaynab (s) stood up and humiliated him in a manner that the Umayyad had not been humiliated before in that fashion. The speeches that they delivered on the way, in Kūfah and Damascus and the sermon that His Holiness Sajjād (‘a) delivered and made it evident that the issue was not one of confrontation of wrong with right; meaning that they had been misrepresented. They wanted to introduce the Doyen of the Martyrs as a person that was resisting the rulers of the time—the Caliph of the Prophet of God. His Holiness Sajjād revealed the truth at a gathering and so did Her Holiness Zaynab…

All the speakers must pay attention to this and we should all be focused on this objective that if the uprising of His Holiness, the Doyen of the Martyrs (‘a) was not existed, today, we, too could not have been victorious. All this unity of expression, which was the source of our victory, was because of these mourning and grieving ceremonies and these propagation gatherings grounded for the promotion of Islam. The Doyen of the oppressed made available the means for our nation that without being an inconvenience for the nation, the people congregate. Islam has made the mosques to be trenches and they became a means for the nation so that from these very mosques, from these very congregations, from these very gatherings, from these very Fridays and social gatherings, all the affairs that would move Islam forward and carrying out of the uprising were facilitated. From his actions, the Doyen of the Martyrs has especially taught us that what should be the position on the battlefield and what should be the position outside the battlefield; and how must those who are armed combatants should engage in combat; and how those, who are providing backing for the frontlines, engage in preaching and publicizing. The way and mode of the struggle in the sense that how one should engage in combat as a smaller group versus a large gathering; The mode and the way may be adopted for the uprising with a limited number against an oppressive regime that has a hold everywhere. His Holiness, the Doyen of the Martyrs, his honorable household and his noble offspring taught us and nation these matters and what must be done after the occurrence of such tragedy. Should a person surrender? Should one compromise while engaged in holy struggle? Alternatively, stand should be taken in similar way of Zaynab (s) as subsequent to the great tragedy of such kind that “tragedies appear insignificant before it” resisted and confronted the faithless and spoke against the hypocrisy. She spoke on the issue wherever it was possible for her and so did His Holiness ‘Alī ibn Husayn (‘a) despite his indisposition that he did preach in a preeminent way…

You all the clergymen that are in the country have a duty to safeguard this blessing of God, this Divine gift and be grateful for it, and show their gratitude by propagating it. What the Doyen of the Martyrs carried out, the ideology that he had, the path that he traversed, and the victory that he attained for Islam after martyrdom, should be made clear for the people. They should all be made to understand that sacred struggle in the path of Islam is what he had done. He knew that he could not confront such a tyrant who possessed everything in the material sense with a small group numbering less than a hundred persons but he knew that it was the martyrdom that made Islam victorious and revived it…

Gentlemen, you must propagate! It is the month of Muharram. Keep this Muharram alive. Whatever that we have is from this Muharram and these gatherings. Our propagation gatherings are also from Muharram; from the slaying of the Doyen of the Martyrs and his martyrdom. We must approach to the depth of this martyrdom and pay attention to its impact in the world and emphasize that his influence pervades even today. If these eulogizing meetings, sermonizing, mourning, and grieving gatherings were not present, our country would not have triumphed. All revolted under the banner of Imām Husayn—may God’s peace be upon him. Now also you are witnessing that all of them are enthused at the frontline for the love of Imām Hussayn whenever they show them at the frontlines. Honorable propagators, the eminent theologians and the respected sermonizers must determine the issues of the day including the political, social issues and the duty of the people at such a time when we are faced with so many enemies in the gatherings that are organized during the months of Muharram and Safar and the rest of the times. They must make the people to understand that we are in the middle of the way and we must, God willing, traverse the path until the end of the way. If we move ahead with the order that has existed so far, we shall ultimately attain total victory. Our country and its people have by the grace of God, been ready with this order. However, we must not become lethargic…

Imam Khomeini promoted culture and message of Ashura

The believers were always recommended by Imam Khomeini to pave the way of Imam Hossein (PBUH) and Ashura throughout their lives.  The contemporary figure maintained that acting upon message of Ashrua would prevent societies from falling into moral and social decline.

Imam Khomeini the founder of the Islamic Republic used to frequently emphasize on significance of reviving the culture of Ashura and genuine message as delivered by the grandson of the holy prophet of Islam, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

Imam Khomeini said it were the months of Moharram and Safar which have revived the genuine teachings of Islam throughout the history: “The months of Moharram and Saffar have kept Islam alive.”

The great leader of the Muslim world used to regularly participate in the mourning ceremonies which were held in memorial of the sufferings of the household members of the honorable prophet during this period.

The spiritual leader of the world also advised all preachers to spread real, rational and genuine teachings, as promoted by the holy prophet and his infallible successors, from the tribune during these days.

Imam Khomeini frequently maintained that the Islamic Revolution had been inspired by the culture of Ashura and has had deep roots in the pure legacy of Islam.

Imam’s historical message for the Islamic Revolution was manifested itself in the slogan of “the blood’s triumph over the sword.”

According to Imam Khomeini, The martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) along with his faithful companions on the 10th of Muharram 61 AH, created one of the most heart-breaking scenes. The Ashura movement also brought on the course of human history such a great spiritual and moral change whose profound impact after several centuries is still being felt.

The grandson of the holy prophet of Islam rose up against the corruption of the corrupt rulers who claimed to be the caliph of Muslims at that time and had caused a decline in religion by distorting the pure tenets of Islam and a denial of the divine revelation. Those rulers were resorting to the rituals of age of Jahiliyah (ignorance).

The most significant achievements of Imam Hussein’s martyrdom are: separating truth from falsehood; revealing the ill-nature of the successors to the caliphate; and demonstrating the real face of Islam and its pure and genuine teachings.

As mentioned by great Imam Khomeini, the Islamic Revolution is a continuation and a precious legacy of pure Islam and the inspiring event of Ashura.

Imam Khomeini Revived Genuine Message of Ashura

Imam Khomeini, the world religious and spiritual emphasized on several occasions that the Islamic Revolution in Iran was inspired by the Ashura and this legacy must be kept and preserved for the coming generations.



Imam Khomeini the leader of the Islamic Republic used to frequently emphasize on significance of reviving the culture of Ashura and genuine message as delivered by the grandson of the holy prophet of Islam, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

Arbaeen, is one of the most revered religious occasions on the Islamic calendar, which marks the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) grandson.

The great leader of the Muslim world said that one of the important objectives of Imam Hussein’s sacred uprising against the tyrant rulers was to inform the Ummah about the crimes the Umayyad dynasty was committing against the Islam. The tyrant ruler of that time was distorting the genuine teachings and damaging the very basic pillars of Islam.


The founder of the Islamic Republic believed that the Islamic societies deserved to be run by likes of infallible Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his pious followers.  No one should doubt that the grandson of the holy prophet wanted to throw out the tyrant rulers and instead establish a system where all people could exercise divine, social, and moral values and establish justice.


The other objective pursued by the infallible successor of the holy prophet was pursuing to command for good and forbid from bad at all levels of the society.


Imam Khomeini the leader of the Muslim world also used to maintain that Ashura is the overflowing spring of liberality and the secret of permanent struggle for safeguarding the Divine religion of Islam.


According to great Imam, Ashura is the code which ushers in monotheism and justice, and befits the eminence of human status.


According to Imam Khomeini’ the elements of God-given consciousness and the fervor of seeking the truth, makes the humankind to become fit for the vicegerency of God on earth, and in this manner man's soul may become a manifestation of the monotheism and justice.


The founder of the Islamic Republic used to insist that Ashura is the inspiration behind the fervent Revolution which emerged as victorious in Iran and is the greatest event of contemporary history.


The Islamic Revolution took place under the guidance of the great Ashuraic leader of our times, Imam Khomeini, for establishing a society based upon the foundations of monotheism, moral and human values.


Opportunities for providing a proper understanding of the contents of the movement of Ashura should be honored, and the presence of scholars, cultural figures and the Muslim nations as well as non-Muslim scholars from other countries for understanding, analyzing and contemplating the contents of this event, should be given due regard.


Imam Khomeini believed that lessons should be learned from tragic event of Ashura and its message must be implemented at all levels and layers of the Muslim societies.


The great Imam also called on the masses and scholars to take serious intellectual efforts to comprehend and promote the real philosophy behind the tragic event of Ashura.


Imam Khomeini insisted that the mourning ceremonies should be used to promote the genuine and pure teachings of Islam as conveyed by the holy prophet of Islam and his infallible successors.


The founder of the Islamic Republic explained the philosophy behind Imam Hussein's (peace be upon him) uprising which was to take a stance against aggression and tyranny. The grandson of the holy prophet also wanted to install and promote the Islamic principle of commanding for good and forbidding from evil.


Imam Khomeini in his historical speech on the eve of Muharram highlights the objectives achieved by the uprising of His Holiness, the Doyen of the Martyrs (‘a).


Several religious and social experts say the Islamic Revolution under the wise leadership was inspired by the historic event of Ashura and great sacrifices rendered by the infallible grandson of the holy prophet of


According to analysts, the epic of Ashura inspired Imam Khomeini to rise up against the tyrant of his day and it also inspired those soldiers fighting against Saddam’s forces during what Iranians call the “Imposed War.”

En el nombre de Dios, el Clemente el Misericordioso

A los estudiantes en general de Europa y Norte América:

 


Los sucesos últimos en Francia y en otros países occidentales me convencieron para que hable directamente con vosotros, jóvenes, sobre estos sucesos. No porque quiera dejar de lado a sus padres y madres, sino porque veo el futuro de la Nación y su tierra en sus manos y también veo en ustedes y vuestros corazones el sentimiento de la búsqueda de la verdad más viva e inteligente.

En este mensaje no hablo con vuestros políticos y gobernantes. Creo que ellos conscientemente han separado el camino de la veracidad y lo correcto del camino de la política.


 Mi palabra con vosotros es sobre el Islam y en especial sobre la imagen y rostro que os presentan del Islam.


Desde hace dos décadas antes, quiere decir casi después del derrumbamiento de la Unión Soviética, se han esforzado mucho para que esta gran religión se vea como un enemigo monstruoso. El sentimiento del miedo, del odio y el aprovecharse para movilizarlos desgraciadamente tiene un antecedente extenso en la historia política de Occidente.


No quiero enumerar en este lugar a los diferentes miedos que han infundido en las naciones occidentales. Ustedes mismos con un breve repaso a las últimas investigaciones críticas sobre la historia ven que han reprochado los revisionistas las actitudes no veraces e insensatas de los gobiernos occidentales con otras culturas y civilizaciones del mundo.


 La historia de Europa y América esta avergonzada de la esclavitud. Desde la época del colonialismo esta cabizbajo y lo mismo está por la opresión a los negros y los no cristianos. Vuestros investigadores e historiadores se lamentan profundamente por los derramamientos de sangre en nombre de la religión entre católicos y protestantes y a nombre de los nacionalismos y etnias en la primera y segunda guerra mundial.


 En sí mismo estos sentimientos son elogiables y mi objetivo al repetir este largo índice no es reprochar la historia sino que quiero de vosotros que pregunten a sus intelectuales por qué la conciencia general en Occidente debe despertar y ser informado con un retraso de diez años y a veces de cientos de años.

¿Por qué la revisión en la conciencia general debe relacionarse con el pasado lejano y no a los asuntos del día? ¿Por qué en un tema tan importante como la manera del encuentro con la cultura y el pensamiento islámico se niegan a que la gente tenga una información general y correcta?


Vosotros sabéis perfectamente que humillar y crear odio y miedo imaginario con respecto a otro siempre ha preparado el terreno para los beneficios opresores.

Ahora yo quiero que se pregunten a sí mismos, ¿Por qué la política antigua de crear miedo y odio con una fuerza sin antecedentes ha tomado como objetivo al Islam y a los musulmanes. ¿Por qué la estructura del poder en el mundo actual quiere que el pensamiento islámico sea colocado en el margen y en una actitud pasiva?

¿Qué contenidos y valores existen en el Islam que perturban al programa de los grandes poderes y que beneficios tendrán en la sombra de deformar el rostro del Islam?


Entonces mi primero pedido a vosotros es que pregunten e investiguen sobre los motivos de esta actitud negativa contra el Islam.


Mi segundo pedido es que en reacción a este diluvio de propagandas negativas y prejuicios traten de obtener directamente y sin intermediario el conocimiento de esta religión. Una lógica sana exige que al menos sepáis qué es y qué esencia tiene el Islam que os atemorizan y os hacen escapar de ello.


Yo no insisto que acepten mi punto de vista o el de otro en el Islam, sino que les digo que esta realidad fluyente y activa en el mundo actual no os sea presentada con los objetivos contaminados . No permitáis que ostentosamente se presenten a vosotros a los terroristas empleados y mercenarios como representantes del Islam.


Conozcan el Islam de las fuentes genuinas y de primera mano. Conozcan al Islam por el camino del Qoran y la vida del gran profeta del Islam.

En este momento quiero preguntarles, ¿acaso vosotros mismos habéis recurrido directamente al Sagrado Corán de los musulmanes? ¿Acaso han estudiado actitudes del profeta del Islam con otras personas y sus enseñanzas humanas y morales? ¿Acaso hasta hoy han recibido el mensaje del Islam de otras fuentes distintas a los medios de comunicación?


¿Acaso se han preguntado a sí mismos ¿cómo y en base a qué valores fue que el Islam desarrollo a lo largo de los siglos la más grande civilización científica y racional en el mundo? educando a los más elevados científicos y pensadores?


Yo pido a vosotros que no permitáis que mostrando una cara desagradable del Islam, crean un obstáculo sentimental entre vosotros y la realidad, quitándoles la posibilidad de poseer un juicio imparcial. Hoy, que los medios de comunicación han roto fronteras geográficas, no permitáis que os encierren dentro de las fronteras mentales y falsificadas.


Si bien nadie puede en forma individual llenar las grietas realizadas pero cada uno de vosotros puede construir un puente de pensamiento y equidad sobre estas grietas con la intención de aclarar a sí mismos y al ambiente alrededor.


Este obstáculo que fue planeado de antemano entre vosotros jóvenes y el Islam aunque es desagradable pero puede crear nuevos interrogantes en vuestra mente curiosa y buscadora.

Hacer el esfuerzo para encontrar las respuestas a estas preguntas les otorga una oportunidad beneficiosa para descubrir nuevas verdades.

Entonces no pierdan esta oportunidad para comprender correctamente sin perjuicios al Islam, quizás por la bendición de su compromiso ante la verdad, Las generaciones venideras que escribirán esta parte de la historia acerca del comportamiento de Occidente con el Islam lo hagan con menos molestia y con una conciencia más tranquila.

In the name of God, the Beneficent the Merciful To the Youth in Europe and North America,  The recent events in France and similar ones in some other Western countries have convinced me to directly talk to you about them. I am addressing you, [the youth], not because I overlook your parents, rather it is because the future of your nations and countries will be in your hands; and also I find that the sense of quest for truth is more vigorous and attentive in your hearts.  I don’t address your politicians and statesmen either in this writing because I believe that they have consciously separated the route of politics from the path of righteousness and truth.  I would like to talk to you about Islam, particularly the image that is presented to you as Islam. Many attempts have been made over the past two decades, almost since the disintegration of the Soviet Union, to place this great religion in the seat of a horrifying enemy. The provocation of a feeling of horror and hatred and its utilization has unfortunately a long record in the political history of the West.  Here, I don’t want to deal with the different phobias with which the Western nations have thus far been indoctrinated. A cursory review of recent critical studies of history would bring home to you the fact that the Western governments’ insincere and hypocritical treatment of other nations and cultures has been censured in new historiographies.  The histories of the United States and Europe are ashamed of slavery, embarrassed by the colonial period and chagrined at the oppression of people of color and non-Christians. Your researchers and historians are deeply ashamed of the bloodsheds wrought in the name of religion between the Catholics and Protestants or in the name of nationality and ethnicity during the First and Second World Wars. This approach is admirable.  By mentioning a fraction of this long list, I don’t want to reproach history; rather I would like you to ask your intellectuals as to why the public conscience in the West awakens and comes to its senses after a delay of several decades or centuries. Why should the revision of collective conscience apply to the distant past and not to the current problems? Why is it that attempts are made to prevent public awareness regarding an important issue such as the treatment of Islamic culture and thought?  You know well that humiliation and spreading hatred and illusionary fear of the “other” have been the common base of all those oppressive profiteers. Now, I would like you to ask yourself why the old policy of spreading “phobia” and hatred has targeted Islam and Muslims with an unprecedented intensity. Why does the power structure in the world want Islamic thought to be marginalized and remain latent? What concepts and values in Islam disturb the programs of the super powers and what interests are safeguarded in the shadow of distorting the image of Islam? Hence, my first request is: Study and research the incentives behind this widespread tarnishing of the image of Islam.  My second request is that in reaction to the flood of prejudgments and disinformation campaigns, try to gain a direct and firsthand knowledge of this religion. The right logic requires that you understand the nature and essence of what they are frightening you about and want you to keep away from.  I don’t insist that you accept my reading or any other reading of Islam. What I want to say is: Don’t allow this dynamic and effective reality in today’s world to be introduced to you through resentments and prejudices. Don’t allow them to hypocritically introduce their own recruited terrorists as representatives of Islam. Receive knowledge of Islam from its primary and original sources. Gain information about Islam through the Qur’an and the life of its great Prophet. I would like to ask you whether you have directly read the Qur’an of the Muslims. Have you studied the teachings of the Prophet of Islam and his humane, ethical doctrines? Have you ever received the message of Islam from any sources other than the media?  Have you ever asked yourself how and on the basis of which values has Islam established the greatest scientific and intellectual civilization of the world and raised the most distinguished scientists and intellectuals throughout several centuries? I would like you not to allow the derogatory and offensive image-buildings to create an emotional gulf between you and the reality, taking away the possibility of an impartial judgment from you. Today, the communication media have removed the geographical borders. Hence, don’t allow them to besiege you within fabricated and mental borders.  Although no one can individually fill the created gaps, each one of you can construct a bridge of thought and fairness over the gaps to illuminate yourself and your surrounding environment. While this preplanned challenge between Islam and you, the youth, is undesirable, it can raise new questions in your curious and inquiring minds. Attempts to find answers to these questions will provide you with an appropriate opportunity to discover new truths.  Therefore, don’t miss the opportunity to gain proper, correct and unbiased understanding of Islam so that hopefully, due to your sense of responsibility toward the truth, future generations would write the history of this current interaction between Islam and the West with a clearer conscience and lesser resentment.
